Investigation of the mobility and coordination of movement with individual markers The measuring systems permit an objective analysis of the movement pattern of the muscular and skeletal spinal system. This way the degree of disability or impairment can be assessed by the examination. In addition, advances in the course of treatment can be indicated as well as the stress capacity of the patient. Small flat ultrasound transmitters are attached to the skin along the back, for example in the region of the sacrum and of the lumbar spinal column. Together with the surrounding soft tissues, the spinal column produces a non-random motion pattern of the body surface markers. In addition to the derivation of the localized mobility, the coordination of movement of the spinal column and of the pelvis provides important information for the assessment of spinal function. The coordination of movement is outside the patient’s control while pure observation of the mobility (ROM) is subject to the arbitrary control and depends on factors such as motivation, expectation of pain or the instantaneous constitution.
