The UK prime minister recently announced a new mission to accelerate the use of AI in life sciences to address today's major health challenges.
This funding will be targeted towards areas that AI has the greatest potential to create breakthroughs in treatments, as well as exploring how AI could address conditions with some of the highest mortality and morbidity.
This new government funding for AI will leverage the UK's world-class health data to rapidly identify dementia risks, match the right patients with trials, and improve the assessment of new treatments' effectiveness. Ultimately, AI will support the expanding pipeline of new dementia therapies, ensuring the best and most promising treatments move forward.
Leading companies are already harnessing the power of conversational AI to help patients with mental health challenges, guiding them through proactive prevention routines and referring them to therapists when necessary.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said:
“AI can help us solve some of the greatest social challenges of our time. AI could help find novel dementia treatments or develop vaccines for cancer”.
“That’s why today we’re investing a further £100 million to accelerate the use of AI on the most transformational breakthroughs in treatments for previously incurable diseases”.
Innovative tools, including AI, are crucial for giving clinicians more time with their patients and enhancing patient care. Successful partnerships have already driven research for earlier diagnosis and faster drug discovery using AI.
Additionally, this funding will target opportunities to deploy AI in clinical settings to improve health outcomes across various conditions
