A critical care Datathon is an event where multidisciplinary teams and international experts join forces to investigate clinical questions using large datasets of electronic health records.

In addition, they have the chance to expand their knowledge of data, learn new ways to answer clinical questions and create connections!

The fourth edition of the ESICM Critical Care Datathon will happen digitally, between 6 May and 3 June.

Who can participate

Registrations are possible as individuals or as pre-formed teams.

To make the experience more productive and satisfying for everybody, we advise subscribers to possess the following skills: if you’re a clinician, some real experience in ICU; if you’re a data scientist, proficiency in R / Python / SQL queries, and a background in machine learning, statistical modeling, or data visualization.

Not only established professionals, we welcome residents, student and trainees with a background in one of the above fields to participate!

Registration fee

The registration fee is 20 euros for both ESICM members and non-members.

Background information

To finalise your registration, you will need to fill a form including your ICU, data science and statistical background.

We need this information to incorporate you into the right team and make sure you can access AmsterdamUMCdb, the critical care database for the Datathon.

If you want to be in a team with specific other participants, you can indicate so in the form.

Registration Period

Registrations will open soon. Keep visiting our website for the latest updates.

Datathon Kick-Off on Friday 6 May CET

After introducing the 4th edition of the Datathon, the teams will be presented with the three challenges they will face over the following month.

More information will also be provided about the AmsterdamUMCdb database, from which clinical data will be extrapolated.

The Datathon Challenge - May

The teams will have the full month to work on the clinical questions they have been assigned.

Every week, they will have the possibility to connect on a 1-hour video meeting with the faculty for troubleshooting.

Grand Finale Event on Friday 3 June

ESICM President Maurizio Cecconi will open the last act of the Datathon, where the teams will present their final results to the faculty, alternated by keynote lectures on Data Science, including 1 lecture by key opinion leaders on AI and ICU clinical practice supported by GE Healthcare.

A more detailed programme will be shared in due time.
