Water Softeners: ESG element protection Water Softeners are used in the removal of calcium, magnesium and certain other metal ions in hard water. The hardness of water is measured based on the concentration of the dissolved mineral salts of calcium and magnesium. When water containing the hardness salts is heated the salts become less soluble and precipitate (not like other dissolved minerals which actually become more soluble as water is heated). The precipitation of these minerals results in difficult deposits. The presence of hardness salt hinders the efficiency of most water systems and can lead to scale formation, which can be undesirable and costly in many manufacturing processes. In the steam generator this scale not only reduces the efficiency of the equipment but also damages electrical elements, greatly reducing their lifespan.
