The Salivette uses an optimal, standardized method for saliva collection. For certain diagnostic procedures and therapy monitoring collecting a saliva sample offers some advantages over collecting a blood sample. If a patient is given a roll-shaped saliva collector to chew on, saliva collection is generally not a problem. A special roll, one that is treated with a citric acid preparation, usually guarantees an ample flow of saliva will occur in more difficult cases. A Salivette Cortisol collector for cortisol determination and a range of containers for the collection of sputum are also available.
