This catheter has been specifically designed for utilization in spontaneous and tension pneumothorax applications. With the intention of being used once, it is supplied in sterile packaging, which can be peeled open. It features an Intro-Tip design to aid catheter placement in the event that resistance is encountered during insertion. This is achieved by preventing it from accordioning over the trocar needle. Friction is greatly reduced when the AQ hydrophilic coating on the distal surface is activated. The lubricated distal catheter surface is particularly beneficial in reducing placement trauma. The tubing has an adapter which can be connected to the chest drain valve or to suction apparatus.
