For the Russian state-based public healthcare system, the concept of value-based imaging could be regarded as a new one. So far it is sill mostly based on reimbursement according to volume of radiological services. But this situation has to be changed rapidly.

During the last years our government has taken a course to promote preventive and high-technology healthcare where modern diagnostic imaging plays a pivotal role. However, quite a lot of radiological procedures are performed without appropriate indications or without sufficient care about the quality of reports or radiation doses. Such a system has a lot of obvious drawbacks. In particular, it does not stimulate the use and development of the newest imaging technologies.

This is why the concept of value-driven radiology, based on outcomes measures, quality, safety and evidence-based guidelines looks so important and vital for our healthcare and radiological community.

The task of rapid transition to value-based radiology is one of the major challenges to the Russian Society of Radiology and the national health system.
