Luxembourg hospital group Hôpitaux Robert Schumain (HRS) and Hanalytics Sàrl, the Luxembourg subsidiary of Singapore based Tech firm Hanalytics, have joined forces to trial a radiological image analysis solution powered by AI system BioMind®.

The two bodies recently signed a memorandum of understanding at the ‘Bringing Innovation to the Healthtech Market’ congress in Luxembourg.

BioMind® is a diagnostic support system that uses deep learning technology to analyse MRI and CT images for brain tumours, stroke conditions and vascular diseases.

The solution aims to improve diagnostics and treatment at HRS. It provides a diagnosis recommendation and automatically produces a report for physician review.

Head of digitalisation at HRS, Dr Damien Dietrich, explained the hospital group would work with Hanalytics Sàrl in continual assessment of the system for best integration into workflow.

“There is a currently shortage of image specialists and radiologists, while the demand is constantly increasing. Doctors suffer from burnout, and there is a high level of misdiagnosis. If just 1% could be corrected, hundreds of thousands of lives could be saved every year,” said Hanalytics CEO Raymond Moh.

The wider implications for the technology were noted by Luxembourg Radiology Society. Dr Jean-Baptiste Niedercorn, radiologist representative at the HRS and member of the board of the body said`; “We are fortunate to work in a specialty, radiology, at the forefront of innovation and to rapidly benefit from clinical applications resulting from research in physics and more recently in computer science.”
