•   Full compliance with data privacy and security requirements in Germany and the European Union
•   Exemplary implementation of Data Protection by Design and Default
•   Certified as providing extremely high patient data privacy

The cloud-based teamplay1 platform from Siemens Healthineers has recently been awarded the German “Seal of Privacy for IT products” of the Independent Centre for Privacy Protection Schleswig-Holstein (ULD) as well as the European Privacy Seal (EuroPriSe). Teamplay is a cloud-based network that enables healthcare professionals to analyze imaging data both inside and outside of hospitals. The two seals confirm that teamplay complies with data privacy and security requirements2 , meaning that users employing teamplay as directed by Siemens Healthineers are in full compliance with German and EU data privacy legislation.

The certifiers also attested that teamplay’s implementation of the principle of “Data Protection by Design and Default” is exemplary. Siemens Healthineers worked with security experts from Corporate Technology at Siemens AG right from the start to develop relevant data privacy and security measures and integrate them in the application design.

“From the very start, Data Protection by Design and Default and the associated transparency were our guiding principles in developing teamplay. Thus, we enable our customers to comply with the strictest European privacy standards,” says Dr. Arthur Kaindl, head of Digital Health Services, Siemens Healthineers. “We’re very proud of the fact that we’ve been awarded privacy seals from EuroPriSe and ULD.”

Among other things, the report praises the configuration options for employee data privacy and the choice of data privacy profiles that make it possible to reduce or anonymize patient information. This includes measures developed for data reduction and avoidance as well as for the pseudonymization and anonymization of patient data.

Teamplay thus extracts only the data from clinical images that is necessary for analyses. Depending on the data privacy profile selected, data that could be used to identify persons is deleted, pseudonymized, or its precision is reduced. Teamplay is based on Microsoft’s cloud computing platform Azure. The certifiers also emphasized that the technical and organizational data privacy measures implemented in the subcontracted Microsoft computing centers are exemplary and exceed the average standard.

With teamplay, Siemens Healthcare offers a cloud-based network for physicians, clinicians, and decision makers in the healthcare industry. For example, it makes it possible to easily assess the capacity utilization of imaging devices, the various work sequences, and individual examinations. It also permits dose monitoring of medical devices via the network. It analyzes the doses applied based on the exam type and body region and provides an overview of the protocol used. All the values of the applied dose are then made centrally available to any authorized person in the cloud. The teamplay “Protocols”3 function makes it easier to combine, process, and analyze protocols. Protocols from Siemens computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) devices can be compared, commented on, and archived. A sample protocol can also be transferred to other modalities for further use.
