In a recently released report, IHS, the market research company, has named Carestream Health in the top three global suppliers of vendor-neutral archiving solutions - standards-based platforms used in healthcare to store patient data and medical images and facilitate information access and exchange.

Carestream is the only one of the leading four worldwide VNA vendors that services all of the major geographic regions (the Americas, Emerging Markets and Asia/Pacific) included in the research study.

The IHS report confirmed that non-hosted VNA models continue to dominate the world market and predicted XDS to be a growing trend over time.

The report identifies minimum key features of VNA, including support of DICOM and non-DICOM images, multiple PACS, security, data migration and Long-Term Archive and Disaster Recovery.

IHS predicts a compound annual growth rate for VNA storage worldwide from 2011 to 2017 of 48 per cent. The benefits of VNA include data management, disaster recovery, communications and security, which are expected to drive its increased use of this technology and make it the preferred storage platform for medical imaging, according to the report.
