The PET Tracer Production System developed by Sumitomo Heavy Industries synthesizes tracer RIs for use in positron emission tomography (PET) scanning procedures. These tracer RIs are the means by which the position of a cancer is determined. This PET Tracer production system has been designed in a manner that guarantees the production of radioactive tracers is accomplished in a safe and stable manner. The tracer RIs are synthesized from radioactive isotopes produced by a cyclotron. Automated quality screenings are conducted on the RIs produced, effectively reducing the risk of radiation exposure to PET operators and technicians.
