At Greenbuild 2011 in Toronto, Ontario, Building Design + Construction’s GreenZone showcased a high-performance modular medical facility, which was constructed by BD+C partner NRB Inc. A LEED Scorecard was created to theoretically capture the intent of the project to reach the LEED Gold certification level. The methods and materials that have been applied to the design and construction of this display are representative of what is possible and are intended to reflect the quality, sustainability and flexibility of off-site construction. The GreenZone building was composed of two sections – the vestibule and the treatment room – that would have been parts of a larger medical facility building. These sections were about 90% completed at the NRB plant, including all interior and exterior finishes, wiring, ductwork, plumbing fixtures, counters and cabinets, and were then made ready for transporting to the site.
