These 5 to 10 contact electrodes are inserted through the foramen ovale into the temporal fossa to record EEG activity in the lower and inner surface of the temporal lobe (close to the amygdala and the hippocampus). The semi invasive exploration technique needs to be performed in operating room conditions. A radiology environment is recommended for guiding and controlling the positioning of the electrode. Implantation is carried out in the same way as for thermocoagulation of the trigeminal nerve : using a guiding needle (included in the kit), it can be inserted and positioned percutaneously through the patient’s cheek and the foramen ovale.
