Fillauer has come up with a Torticollis Orthosis to simplify Congenital Torticollis. In case of the Congenital Torticollis the head needs to be rotated and drawn to one side because of the short length of muscles around the neck. Congenital Torticollis happens because of the presence of an unilateral fibrosis in the sternocleidomastoid muscle during the birth time causing a swelling which allows shortening of the muscle. In order to overcome this situation, the surgical release and reattachment of the muscle and application of orthotic support are all needed. The orthosis backs the head after surgery and gradually adjusts to the proper position. Most of the cervical orthoses support the head when it is in the upright position with no longitudinal and rotational adjustment leading to serial casting techniques.
