The SureStep SMO, intended for patients weighing under 80 pounds is a thin, durable plastic device that serves to manage foot and ankle movement in children who have low muscle tone. Rather than attempting to correct hypotonic pronation problems by locking the foot into a static alignment, the SureStep SMO compresses the foot, providing partially immobilizing stability while at the same time allowing for a more natural movement of both the foot and the ankle. In this way, proper alignment is achieved, while the child is still allowed to stand, walk, run, and jump.
