On the heels of FDA approval of the first aortic heart valve placed without open-heart surgery, TeraRecon will showcase its iNtuition™ advanced visualisation tools to support physicians involved in TAVI and EVAR, at the 38th Annual VEITH Symposium held at the Hilton New York on November 16 - 20, 2011.

In addition, the company will demonstrate new iNtuition support for stereoscopic 3D on affordable 3D television sets, providing an additional dimension of clarity and context, for visualisation of vascular anatomy and morphology.

iNtuition is available both as an in-house software solution, iNtuition UNLIMITED™, and as an internet-based service, iNtuition CLOUD™, supporting secure upload of image data and real-time interactive use of the full suite of advanced visualisation tools, through a web browser.

With the recent FDA clearance of the SAPIEN Transcatheter Heart Valve from Edwards Lifesciences LLC, patients now have a minimally invasive option for treatment of severe aortic stenosis. The success of this new procedure, called transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), depends on correct patient selection and reliable preoperative planning. In the conventional procedure the necessary measurements are made during the actual surgery under direct visualization, but with TAVI this can only be done pre-operatively with the aid of image data. A clear appreciation of the involved anatomy is crucial, and due to the fact that aortic anatomy is complex, 3D visualisation and measurement tools may enable more accurate and efficient pre- and post-intervention planning, which can be further enhanced with stereoscopic 3D. Similar benefits are offered by iNtuition in the context of endovascular aortic repair (EVAR).
