#SIR2019: Laura Findeiss named new president

AUSTIN, TEXAS —Laura Findeiss, M.D., FSIR, an interventional radiologist and chief of service for the department of radiology at Grady Memorial Hospital, Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, assumed the office of president of the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) on March 26, during the society’s Annual Scientific Meeting in Austin, Texas.  

“In the coming year, SIR will increase our focus on building alliances within the medical community to broaden patient access to the breakthrough, image-guided treatments that interventional radiologists can provide. We believe that, because we often collaborate to solve the toughest medical problems, access to IR equates to increased health equity,” Findeiss said. “We will renew our commitment to cultivating the growing cadre of highly qualified physicians by launching our new Interventional Radiology Residency Curriculum to ensure consistent, top-notch training for the brightest minds in medicine.”

In addition to Findeiss, other incoming officers of SIR’s 2019–20 Executive Council include President-elect Michael D. Dake, M.D., FSIR, University of Arizona Health Sciences, Tucson, Ariz.; Secretary Matthew S. Johnson, M.D., FSIR, Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis; and Immediate past-president M. Victoria Marx, M.D., FSIR, Keck Medicine of USC, Los Angeles.

Mary Marcelle Costantino, M.D., CIC, Portland, Ore.—private practice councilor

Raj Pyne, M.D., FSIR, Rochester General Hospital, Rochester, N.Y.—member services division councilor

Raymond W. Liu, M.D., FSIR, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston—health policy and economics division councillor

In addition, the SIR Executive Council appointed Filip Banovac, M.D., FSIR, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, Tenn., SIR treasurer. He will serve in this role for SIR, as well as for the SIR Foundation, for a three-year term.
