Zoom On Bin Du

Prof. Bin Du, MD, obtained his medical degree in Peking Union Medical College (PUMC) in 1994, when he joined the Department of Critical Care Medicine at PUMC Hospital. In 2005 he become a Professor and the Director of Medical ICU, PUMC Hospital.

Dr. Bin Du is the Past President of the Chinese Society of Critical Care Medicine (CSCCM) and President Elect of the Chinese Association of Critical Care Physicians. He is also the President of the Asia Pacific Association of Critical Care Medicine (APACCM), and sits on the Council of the World Federation of Societies of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine (WFSICCM) and the Council of the Global Sepsis Alliance (GSA).

In addition, he is one of the founders of China Critical Care Clinical Trials Group (CCCCTG) and sits on the Editorial Board of ICU Management & Practice.  Du has published more than 160 articles, and more than 30 book chapters.

1. What are your key areas of interest and research?
Epidemiology of sepsis, haemodynamic support, education.

2. What are the major challenges in your field?
To encourage everyone think actively rather than learn passively.

3. What is your top management tip?
To make the working environment happy and friendly so that everyone is willing to make a contribution.

4. What would you single out as a career highlight?
I am more than happy to see my students could not only save patients' lives but also change the behaviour of their juniors through education.

5. If you had not chosen this career path you would have become a…?
Teacher.

6. What are your personal interests outside of work?
Reading.
