Due to the coronavirus situation, the 40th ISICEM Congress has been postponed to September 15-18, 2020.

The International Symposium on Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine is organised in collaboration with the Departments of Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine of Erasme University Hospital, Université Libre de Bruxelles, and with the Belgian Society of Intensive Care Medicine (SIZ). The meeting is held every year in March. However, as the COVID-19 infection continues to spread, the Congress organisers announced today that the meeting will now be held in September.

ISICEM is not the first healthcare event to be postponed and/or cancelled. Several other large-scale healthcare events have taken the same decision to ensure safety of the Congress participants and also because industry participants have pulled out.

The European Society of Anaesthesiology cancelled the second day of their two-day Patient Safety Policy Summit in Brussels (3-4 March) and the Emirates Critical Care Conference scheduled in April in Dubai, UAE has also been postponed till September.  Similarly, the European Society of Radiology (ESR) also announced the postponement of ECR and the 2020 World Patient Safety, Science & Technology Summit scheduled in March in California has been postponed until further notice. HIMSS20 has been cancelled for the first time in 58 years.

The future of other healthcare events also remains uncertain owing to the COVID-19 crisis. ISICEM organisers will be providing more information shortly.
