A Long History of Innovation

Based in Southern Ontario, there are few companies with a history and track record of audiologic innovation such as that of Audioscan. First founded in 1983 as Etymonic Design, the company was principally a supplier or engineering research and development to hearing aid manufacturers. In its first five years, its innovations included the the world's first programmable ITE and BTE hearing aids, the first head-worn cochlear implant stimulator, and the first portable hearing aid programmer.

The First Digital Hearing Aid

Not least of the company's achievements was the creation of specialized integrated circuits that could perform adaptive compression rapidly enough to be of use as a functioning hearing instrument. This led to the company's creation of the first digital hearing aid which would prove to be the conceptual foundation and technology for today's modern digital hearing instruments.
