Designed to take advantage of the phenomenon of ‘cement creep’, it is based on biomechanical principles proven in over 40years of clinical use(2). The TaperFit™ femoral prosthesis incorporates an extended lateral shoulder designed to enhance rotational stability and cement pressurisation. The elliptical hole on the shoulder of the stem enables the use of a dedicated introducer to improve the accuracy of stem insertion and alignment within the cement mantle, which is a critical factor in the long-term success of cemented total hip replacements(3).
