Affidea Group, the leading European provider of diagnostic imaging, outpatient and cancer care services has today announced the acquisition of Fortius Clinic, the UK’s single largest orthopedic group with an international reputation in orthopaedics and MSK. This acquisition represents a strategic milestone for Affidea and fits perfectly with the company’s strategy of growth to develop a portfolio of outpatient services, while building upon a complementary geographic footprint.
Fortius clinic was founded in 2009 by a group of like-minded clinicians with a vision to create a worldwide centre of excellence in musculoskeletal care. After 12 years of successful growth, Fortius is now the largest single group of orthopaedic and MSK consultants in Europe, with more than 90 leading specialists, and ranks among the top 20 orthopaedic groups in the world. It operates three outpatient and diagnostic clinics in central London, as well as the Fortius Surgical Centre and a specialist Joint Replacement Centre in partnership with Bupa.
Fortius has been accredited as “Outstanding” by the Care Quality Commission in 2019, in recognition of the holistic and compassionate care in orthopaedic and MSK treatment. The company is the preferred clinic of choice for many premier league football clubs and is a recognised FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence.
Giuseppe Recchi, Affidea Group CEO, said: “It is a proud moment for us. This acquisition represents a significant step in our growth journey, as it adds one more geography to the existing 15 countries where we operate. It also evidences our strategic ambitions to expand into new markets capitalizing on the unique model of high standards in healthcare services which have granted Affidea’s reputation as top provider in diagnostic imaging, outpatient and cancer care services. I am thrilled to welcome the Fortius team to the Affidea Group! Fortius is a patient-centric organisation whose values and standards of care greatly impressed me. Despite the current critical environment for the national healthcare systems across the world due to COVID-19 pandemic, we will continue to offer outstanding patient care with positive medical outcomes. We will combine Fortius’ excellence and innovation in orthopedic and musculoskeletal care with Affidea’s world-class clinical standards in order to empower our patients to live a life free from pain and injury”.
Jim McAvoy, Fortius CEO added: “Today marks an exciting and pivotal stage in the further growth and development of Fortius. We are proud of our achievements in the Orthopaedic and MSK market over the last 12 years and we look forward to a new chapter for the company as part of a powerful European group. In Affidea we saw a partner with shared values and a commitment to world class care, innovation and first-class service. A reputation for excellence is at the heart of what we do, and we will continue to drive forward the Fortius brand, expand our consultant collective, and embed our model of employee engagement, business innovation and clinical leadership – the Fortius Way. We are delighted to be part of the Affidea Group and look forward to working together on opportunities to grow our presence in the UK and across Europe.”
Fortius Clinic is the third acquisition that Affidea has completed in the last three months and demonstrates the continued commitment to the successful expansion of its business model and appetite for growth. In December 2020, Affidea announced the acquisition of Sveti Rok, a reputed outpatient healthcare provider in Zagreb, Croatia while in January 2021, the company has announced the acquisition of Clinica Gamma in Spain. Affidea has a long-term track record in successfully adding and integrating more than 140 centers in the last 5 years, reaching 280 centers across 15 countries in Europe, with over 8,500 professionals serving more than 7 million patients every year.
