The European Congress of Radiology (ECR), the largest radiological meeting in Europe, will take place at the Austria Center Vienna from March 1–5. This year's congress, which will offer a larger and more varied programme than ever before, will once again provide a meeting place for thousands of radiologists from around the world. Vienna, February 6, 2012 – After attracting more than 20,000 participants to last year's event, its organisers, the European Society of Radiology (ESR), hope to surpass this record by offering an even more attractive and versatile programme for their annual meeting. The ECR is well known as the most innovative meeting in the field of medical imaging, and this year it will again boast a number of new features. The scientific programme will be expanded to reflect the creation of two new radiological subspecialty societies – the European Society of Emergency Radiology (ESER) and the European Society of Oncologic Imaging (ESOI) – both of which will be represented by a variety of new Refresher Courses and one new State of the Art Symposium. Active participation should increase, with the introduction of even more interactive lectures and discussion-based sessions, and one of last year's innovations, the extremely popular Categorical Course 'CLICK' (Clinical Lessons for Imaging Core Knowledge) will be held again this year. Close cooperation with national radiological societies and other medical disciplines is the cornerstone of the 'ESR Meets' programme, which sees an exchange of knowledge with three different national radiological societies each year, in the name of building stronger connections with radiological organisations throughout the world. Alongside Italy, which is always among the best represented nations at the ECR, and Romania, the ESR is delighted to welcome the first African nation to take part in the programme: Egypt. The programme also includes a partner discipline, and this year's guest, radiation oncology, which has very close connections to radiology and medical imaging, will be represented by the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO). Also fitting into the oncologic theme, the multidisciplinary lecture series 'Managing patients with cancer' will continue for a third year running, in which specialists from various disciplines will talk about their close cooperation at the hospitals where they work together. The scope of the congress will also be extended in other ways. For the first time, several major sessions from three different lecture rooms will be broadcast as live web streams, which will be accessible for free, via the ESR website. This new initiative aims to broaden the reach of the congress and make some of its highlights available to 'virtual delegates' throughout the world. A permanent fixture of the meeting, and one of its largest attractions, is the technical exhibition. A total of 26,000m² of exhibition space will host more than 300 companies from
