The Seventh Framework Prgramme (FP7), the largest ever funding programme for research and technological development, was launched yesterday. FP7 cleared its final hurdle when it was adopted by the European Council on 18 December 2006.

A total budget in excess of Euro 50 billions, a 40 % increase to the previous prgramme, was allocated for the next seven years. Euro 9.11 billion, the highest portion of the budget will go to information and communications technologies followed by health with Euro 6.05 billion euros.
