The European Society of Radiology (ESR) has announced the postponement of ECR, originally scheduled to take place in Vienna, Austria from March 11 to 15.
ESR cites the reasons for the postponement as recent statements issued by the WHO and
the ECDC
connected to the COVID-19 crisis.
“We have analysed the recommendations from the Austrian health authorities for large-scale events and came to the conclusion that we are not in a position to fulfil their requirements and guarantee a safe congress for our participants and industry partners at this time,” said Boris Brkljačić, ESR President in a statement. “The safety, health and well-being of our delegates and partners will always be the highest priority for the ESR.”
Registration fees for the event and for online services will remain in place
for the new congress date and registration to the ECR 2020 remains open, he
added.
"Please rest assured that in these turbulent and challenging times, the entire
ESR and ECR team are doing their best to respond to any query at the earliest
possible time and to make ECR 2020 a spectacular and memorable event for all," said Brkljačić.
COVID-19 broke out in December in China. At the time of publication, there are 92,268 reported cases, 3,131 deaths (mostly in mainland China) and 48,439 recoveries. In Austria, 2,120 have been tested for the virus with 21 cases confirmed.
