Nestlé Nutrition Institute Supports 2013 Kinney Awards to Recognise Outstanding Nutrition Research

The bi-annual Dr. John M. Kinney Awards recognise and support outstanding young researchers in the fields of nutrition and metabolism, in honour of Dr. Kinney’s extensive work in this field.

The winners of this year’s awards were selected by three panels of leading international experts that carefully assessed impact of the work of many young researchers. This year, the 15th Kinney Awards Ceremony, was held during  the 35th ESPEN, in Leipzig, Germany, and the following awards were given:

The Award for General Nutrition
Presented by Prof. Claude Pichard to:

Patricia Alves Brito M.Sc., Simone de Vasconcelos Generoso Ph.D., Maria Isabel Toulson Davisson Correia M.D. Ph.D.

For their study:
  • Prevalence of pressure ulcers in hospitals in Brazil an association with nutritional status. A multicentre, cross-sectional study. 

The Award for Nutrition & Metabolism
Presented by Prof. Arved Weinmann to:

Eugene J Fine M.D. M.S., C.J. Segal-Isaacson Ed.D. R.D., Richard D. Feinman Ph.D., Silvia Herszkopf M.S. R.D. L.M.N.T., Maria C. Romano M.S. R.D. C.D.N., Norica Tomuta M.D., Amanda F. Bontempo M.S. R.D. C.D.N., Abdissa Negassa Ph.D., Joseph A. Sparano M.D. 

For their study:
  • Targeting insulin inhibition as a metabolic therapy in advanced cancer: A pilot safety and feasibility dietary trial in 10 patents.

The Award for Pediatric Nutrition
Presented by Prof. Michael Meguid to:

Catherine M. Milte B.S.c. (Hons.), Natalie Perletta Ph.D., Jonathan D. Buckley, Alison M. Coates Ph.D., Ross M Young Ph.D. and Peter R.C. Howe Ph.D.

For their study:
  • Eicosapentaenoic and docosahexaenoic acids, cognition and behaviour in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder: A randomized controlled trial.
