Dragon Copilot now supports secure integration of partner AI applications and agents directly within the assistant, enabling clinicians to access specialised capabilities in their native workflow. The need is clear. More than half of family medicine visits involve multiple issues, with physicians handling an average of 2.7 concerns and performing eight actions per encounter while also navigating prior authorisation and coding. Organisations simultaneously update customer relationship systems, track referrals and manage patient engagement, yet consultations average 15 minutes, creating pressure that can affect care quality and revenue integrity.

Nurses face sustained workload and documentation pressures, with high levels of stress and burnout reported, and a significant portion of each shift spent on administrative tasks. Dragon Copilot introduces ambient-enabled capabilities designed specifically for nursing practice. Nurse-patient interactions can be captured at the point of care or on the move and turned into flowsheet documentation that remains under the nurse’s control for review and approval before transfer into the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Nurses can pause while recording to preview what has been captured, edit for accuracy and follow organisation-provided guidance within the workflow to remain aligned with internal policies.
Beyond documentation, the assistant surfaces curated medical content where it is needed, reducing tab-hopping and helping maintain continuity of care. Routine tasks can be automated so nurses can draft notes and summarise interactions more efficiently, reducing clicks and closing documentation faster. These capabilities reflect a multiyear collaboration with nurse leaders and frontline staff across several U.S. healthcare organisations to understand day-to-day realities and embed support where it can address identified needs.
Safe Deployment and Partner-Built Healthcare Agents
To broaden access to specialised capabilities, Microsoft is making a healthcare agent service in Copilot Studio generally available. Built-in knowledge sources and clinical safeguards are designed to support reliable, trustworthy generative AI outputs at the point of care. Partners can use this compliant foundation to build solutions that connect into Dragon Copilot, accelerating delivery of targeted functions without disrupting clinician flow.
Adoption activity is already under way. Selected partners are available in preview and healthcare organisations are evaluating how these integrations can operate seamlessly within existing workflows. The combination of ambient capture, an extensible architecture and agent deployment designed to integrate across use cases provides a single assistant that can support needs from clinical intelligence and documentation to revenue cycle processes and patient engagement.
