Luís Bastião Silva owns a PhD in Computer Science and he is a specialist in Medical Imaging computation solutions. He is also technical lead of several data integration projects in health information systems, across borders and countries. He is the CTO of BMD Software, an SME targeted to the development of novel biomedical software solutions for better decision making and knowledge management in healthcare. The company’s engineering research team is highly complementary, with a strong background in medical imaging systems, telemedicine, data analytics and visualization. Its success is recognised by the participation in several European projects in the past years, such as HEMOSPEC, MedBioinformatics, EUROLEISH-NET and EMIF. BMD is currently co-coordinating IMAGE-IN, an ITN-EID network which aims to contribute to the reduction of the worldwide mortality rate caused by infectious diseases. BMD holds a significant impact in society, supporting neonatal heel prick screening initiatives, with NeoScreen, and breast cancer screening programs, with PACScenter.
