The Local Health Unit of Coimbra corresponds to a new model of organization within the National Health Service, bringing together responses in public health, primary healthcare, rehabilitation, palliative care, and secondary and tertiary care, thereby enhancing proximity and integration of services.

The ULS Coimbra includes the responses of the Coimbra University Hospital Center (University Hospitals of Coimbra, General Hospital, Pediatric Hospital, Bissaya Barreto and Daniel de Matos Maternities, and Sobral Cid Hospital), Archbishop João Crisóstomo Hospital (in Cantanhede), the Rehabilitation Medicine Center of the Central Region – Rovisco Pais (in Tocha), the ACeS of Pinhal Interior Norte, and the Health Centers of Cantanhede, Celas, Eiras, Fernão Magalhães, Norton de Matos, Santa Clara, São Martinho do Bispo, Condeixa-a-Nova, Mealhada, Mira, Mortágua, and Penacova.

The ULS Coimbra meets the needs of citizens, prioritizing proximity, resource optimization, continuity, and integrated care across various domains, ranging from prevention and care planning to treatment, care provision, recovery, and rehabilitation. We will continue to position ourselves as one of the main Portuguese healthcare institutions, with a focus on people and their well-being, capable of responding to all healthcare needs and with a highly specialized human resources framework.

The ULS Coimbra provides high-quality and differentiated healthcare within the context of training, education, research, scientific knowledge, and innovation, establishing itself as a national and international reference in areas considered as centers of excellence.
