The Dutch Society for Intensive Care (NVIC) is an association of physicians with an interest in critical care medicine. The association was founded in 1977 and currently has over 1,100 members.
The association has members (GIC recognized intensivists) and IC fellow members (those who are in training to intensivist). She also has associate members (doctors and other professionals with an interest in Intensive Care Medicine).
At present, over 90% of our members medical specialist. The association represents many specialties. Among the NVIC members we find internists, anesthesiologists, surgeons, neurosurgeons, cardio-pulmonary surgeons, neurologists, pulmonologists, cardiologists, pediatricians, medical microbiologists and hospital pharmacists, and doctors in training for one of these specialties. Nearly 600 members are registered as intensivist or fellow ICU.
The NVIC represents the intensive care medicine in the Netherlands in the broadest sense, which is core to be seen promoting the Intensive Care Medicine, to represent the Intensive Care patient interests efficiency, patient centeredness and efficiency of care promoting these patients and to stimulate development and increase of knowledge of Intensive Care medicine. In addition, there is attention to the legal and professional interests of doctors working in Intensive Care Units.The association is in many areas (eg professional interests, financing of IC units, capacity) contact for governments, hospitals and health insurers. The NVIC is affiliated with the European Association IC ESICM (European Society of Intensive Care Medicine).
