New World Medical, Inc. (NWMI) is a California corporation founded by Dr. A. Mateen Ahmed in the year 1990. It took Dr. Ahmed fourteen years to invent the Ahmed Glaucoma Valve. Clinical testing and FDA submission was an important milestone for a small privately held company. Finally, on the 12th of November in 1993, the FDA granted clearance for the sale of the Ahmed Glaucoma Valve in the United States and around the world. New World Medical, Inc. has been granted more than twenty patents on the glaucoma valve as well as other valves.NWMI has been consistently growing in terms of its sales in the domestic, as well as, international markets. Presently, the company has a large sales force that sells our valves, and inter nationally the company sells through exclusive distributors in over 87 countries.NWMI is a very innovative company. Between 1995 and 2000, the company introduced five new products. Then in 2002, a new line of silicone based valves were introduced by the model numbers of FP7 and FP8. These new models, with more bio-compatible material, helped NWMI to truly become a leader in Glaucoma.
