Espiner Medical began in 1990 when pioneering laparoscopic surgeon Harry Espiner encountered the problem of how to retrieve tissue safely in laparoscopic cholecystectomy procedures.

Having decided that a strong, lightweight and leak-proof Sac would be required. Harry had the good fortune to be introduced to Jim Howard of Cameron Balloons - the world’s largest manufacturer of hot air balloons. With his expert knowledge of light weight fabrics, Jim set about creating prototype Sacs, using similar fabric technology perfected in the manufacture of hot air balloons to create Espiner’s Superamide66TM.

This design has remained the foundation for the current product range suitable for all tissue retrieval procedures from the appendix to the large malignant spleen.
