AMT certification examinations are developed, administered, and analyzed using industry standards and state-of-the-art methodologies (The psychometrics of certification). Each examination is developed by a committee of subject-matter experts. 

As the tests provide only one source of information regarding examinee competence, they are used in conjunction with other indicators of training and experience in the granting of certification.  Once certification is granted, applicants automatically become members of AMT and have a host of member benefits at their disposal.
