These suction catheters are long, flexible tubes that help eliminate respiratory secretions from the airway for the purpose of keeping the airway clear and free of plugging. A collection container and a suction generating device are connected to one end of the catheter. The open end is advanced through the tracheostomy or endotracheal tube to remove the secretions.
