The Navigated Brain Therapy (NBT®) System is a navigated TMS device designed to help people recovering from stroke regain lost (upper) limb function. NBT® is a non-invasive, personalized adjunct therapy to standard physiotherapy. NBT® works by using navigated rTMS (repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation) at a slow frequency in order to help restore the brain´s natural inhibitory balance between its two hemispheres: allowing the injured side of the brain to benefit from subsequent physiotherapy. Repeated at high frequencies, rTMS can alternatively be used to excite the remaining neurons and neural circuits on the damaged hemisphere. Slow rTMS therapy over the healthy, unaffected hemisphere appears to hold the most promise in stroke therapy.
