The high-speed HPLC analysis started in 1982. The aim was to improve the quality of lab research and productivity. The first column system was Shimadzu LC-5A/FLC. In 2006 the Prominence UFLC/XR column system was designed. This column achieved extremely high speed and also ensured repeatability in continuous multi-sample analysis. This column ensured robustness and stability of data. The HPLC analysis is not adequate enough for qualitative capabilities. The risk of missing out of impurities that can obscure peaks cannot be ruled out. To reduce this risk sometimes mass spectrometers are used. However, there is no such MS which is commercially capable enough to provide the kind of sharpness that you can get from high-speed LC.
