The Impella LD pump is a minimal invasive catheter- based cardiac assist device. It is designed to increase the cardiac output. The pump is designed to directly unload the left ventricle, reduce myocardial workload, reduce oxygen consumption and simultaneously increase cardiac output, coronary and end- organ perfusion. The Impella LD is directly inserted into the left ventricle through open chest procedures. The Impella LD pump is then inserted through the ascending aorta, across the valve and into the left ventricle. The micro axial blood pump with 9 Fr catheter-based platform delivers forward-flow from left ventricle to the aorta.
