MRI’s greatest asset is to be able to visualize tissue of similar density, but with different characteristics. A small brain lesion may not be visible on a CT image, but the MRI image will show the contrast between the two types of tissue. MRI does not use ionizing radiation, it is better suited for multiple examinations, paediatric patients or patients where the total body dose has to be limited or minimized.
