The SureStep Advance SMO system is designed to assist children with weak muscle tone to more easily make the transition between assisted and independent standing. The addition of a proximal strut to the standard SureStep SMO design helps to reduce sagittal instabilities, and discourages dorsi flexion and plantar flexion. In doing so it provides the child with greater support than does traditional bracing. As children progress toward ambulation, as children do, the SureStep Advanced can easily be converted to a SureStep SMO, eliminating the necessity of purchasing a second pair of orthosis.
