Weekends: Fri - Sun 7a-7p + on-call shift once a week
Primary Function/General Purpose Of Position
The primary responsibility of this position is to assist the clinical staff by performing a variety of support functions to facilitate the proper functioning of the anesthesia equipment. Provide needed supply and drugs to the OR rooms. Participate as a team member by performing additional assignments when workload or area of specialty requires, as requested by the team. Responsible for timely preparation of operating rooms for surgical procedures.
Job Requirements
- Work requires the knowledge generally acquired through a general high school education/GED including the ability to read, write, comprehend, follow oral and written instructions, perform mathematical calculations and communicate in order to complete forms, comprehend verbal and written instructions, and order supplies.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology, use of a variety of equipment, and the telephone as usually acquired through three months on-the-job experience.
- Work requires an understanding of applicable department and hospital policies and procedures.
- Documentation of CPR certification/ certification required within the probationary period.
Transports patients via bed, stretcher, or wheelchair to other departments, nursing units, or automobile.
Responds to a variety of requests including running errands to other departments, ie., Blood Bank, ER, Lab, Materiel Management, Dietary, and Medical Records, etc.
Answers phone, responds to routine inquires, and relays other calls and messages. Able to prioritize situation/requests appropriately. Contacts and communicates with other Surgical Services units as well as various hospital departments’ staff in order to arrange for patient or bed transportation.
Performs surgical services clean-up, OR room turnover, and terminal cleaning as assigned.
Performs or assists with procedures, including but not limited to: emptying foley-catheter bags, discontinuing IV’s, measuring vital signs, patient weights, surgical clipper preps, POC testing, controls and QA, EKG’s, phlebotomy, and other procedures for which training and re-validation of skills is provided.
Assists with anesthesia needs in Surgical Services and OB. Responsible for the stocking of all medications relating to anesthesia care (emergency meds, induction agents, muscle relaxants, inhalation agents and all intravenous fluids). Restocks, dates and reviews expiration dates for all medications for anesthesia care. Fills printers and copy machines with paper. Checks refrigerator, freezer and warmer temperatures and documents on the appropriate log sheet as per the policy.
Demonstrates knowledge of role in the team including: emergency situations, behavior that promotes team cooperation especially in the ability to take directions, follow instructions, and accept constructive feedback. Provides 1:1 observation of confused/disturbed patients on a temporary basis as assigned. Assists with orientation of new staff members.
