About the job

  • Adheres to training regarding ethical responsibilities and confidentiality.
  • Explains the procedure to the patient and obtains the patient’s cooperation for the best performance of these procedures. Checks the patient’s chart for orders and special needs. Performs the appropriate calibration procedure on the EEG instrument for standard recordings.
  • Takes complete histories directly from patients or medical records.
  • Measures and applies electrodes using standard 10/20 placement. Understands basic troubleshooting of the equipment to provide artifact free recordings.
  • Adheres to Laboratory Guidelines for activation techniques including hyperventilation and photic stimulation.
  • Application of Electrodes for Epilepsy Patients.; able to operate general keyboard and mouse commands; able to recognize spikes and seizures appropriately.
  • Keeps EEG equipment in clean, operating condition, detects for instrument malfunctions, makes minor troubleshooting efforts and reports need for major repairs.
  • Cleans, disinfects and maintains electrodes according to laboratory and infection control guidelines. Cleans and disinfects LTM equipment according to Laboratory Guidelines.
  • Conforms to all lab policy and procedures regarding OSHA, Joint Commission, and hospital regulations.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the central nervous system, diseases related to Neurodiagnostic medicine, instrumentation, basic electronics and electrical safety.
  • Demonstrates positive patient-appropriate interpersonal skills with patients, physician staff, and other hospital/clinic staff members.
  • Acquires specialized skills to perform more difficult procedures and other Neurodiagnostic procedures.
  • Successfully complete the ABRET EEG Registration (R. EEG T.) within the first two years of hire or shows continued ambition through study and conferences in doing so.
  • Participates in Laboratory Quality Assurance programs.
  • Stocks laboratory with supplies and linens as indicated. Cleans laboratory and maintains its appropriate appearance.
  • Continues education through journals workshops, seminars and site visits.
  • Performs other related duties as required .
  • Graduate of or currently enrolled in an Accredited Electrodiagnostic Program or certified hospital program preferred.
  • High school diploma required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
