Telemedicine is “medicine at distance” and regards the interactive transmission of medical data, signals and biomedical images by means the use of telecommunication. The communication and exchange of clinical information between operators and health structures is spreading rapidly, whether to better and more rapidly support diagnosis and consulting at distance, or to avoid hospitalisation and not necessary treatments.

The aim of the School, is to provide knowledge and instruments, to researchers and health operators of Italy and Hungary and other European Countries, useful to the development and the management of health information systems, to automatic support to clinical research, epidemiological surveys, teleconsulting/telediagnosis services and integration between health structures, at local, national and international level, in order to give to the patients a better and faster medical treatment and care. The medical record, the clinical data bases and the health information systems have to manage a large amount of data results of vast biomedical instrumentation used in diagnostic services (radiology, pathology, labs, ect.).

During the school will be treated methodologies and techniques for archiving, access and automatical interpretation of health electronics data. Then, some examples of the use of information and communication systems in medicine will be showed, that will allow the health operators, even in developing Countries, to acquire knowledge and advanced instruments useful for data management in HIS and in Health districts.

A second part of the courses will be hold on technologies and applications of information transmission and communication and medical expertise between health operators. By means the telecommunications systems based on advanced communication infrastructures (i.e. ISDN, satellite, etc.) that cover the entire Mediterranean area and others Countries in the world, it is possible now to start telemedicine services. Moreover, the Internet diffusion permits the access to specialist knowledge of excellence centres even from remote countries, in order to give patients the better cure. Moreover, the development of web sites and portals it is possible to put on line medical information, protocols, guide lines, useful to continue education and the specialistic support to the health treatments.

In late years many biomedical information sprang of the research on human genoma and molecular biology (with the construction of vast and specific data banks), producing a new branch of science: the bioinformatics, rapidly evolving. A third branch, the neuroinformatics, that is possible to correlate to medical informatics, regards the brain cognitive processes. In the future, thank to the discoveries of the biomedical research and pharmacology, molecular biology and neurosciences these branches will cooperate together, as the scientific community try to realise at biomedical research and medical practice support.

Students, researchers, ICT professionals and health operators from public and private institutions, in particular of Italy and Hungary, should attend the Course. It is structured in a theory part and exercises with software dedicated to sectors treated during the Course. The language of the course is English.
