Saturnino Luz
Professor
Usher Institute of Population Health Sciences and Informatics
Edinburgh Medical School: Molecular, Genetic and Population Health Sciences
Dr Luz works in the field of medical informatics, in the Usher Institute of Population Health Sciences and Informatics, at The University of Edinburgh, focusing on communication and analysis of time-based modalities in healthcare settings. He has investigated communication in complex cooperative tasks such as decision-making in multidisciplinary medical team meetings, problem solving by teams of students, and computer-mediated multilingual dialogues, employing a range of multidisciplinary methods. He is currently investigating inference in high-dimensional data sets, and employing machine learning and signal processing methods in the analysis of multidisciplinary medical team meetings, doctor-patient consultations and telemedicine encounters, and in tasks involving prediction and diagnosis of cognitive status with applications to dementia research. Dr Luz leads the Translation Reseach Group on Technology and Communication at the Centre for Dementia Prevention at the University of Edinburgh.
