The 22nd European Symposium on Urogenital Radiology
It is the fourth time that a urogenital radiologic symposium takes place in Copenhagen; however, this time is special. We celebrate the 25th birthday of ESUR with a great symposium where we look back and in particular look forward. It is with great honor that I wish you welcome back.
Twenty-second symposium and 25 years old – it does not seem right. The first steps towards ESUR were taken in 1985 when we started planning the first Copenhagen Symposium on Uroradiology. It took place in 1987. It was a great success. The success whetted our appetite and we decided to organize the second Copenhagen Symposium on Uroradiology. It took place in 1990. During the preparation of this meeting, I got the idea that establishing a European uroradiologic forum might strengthen European uroradiology. Several experts within uroradiology were invited to an informal meeting the day before the opening of the second Copenhagen Symposium on Uroradiology. What was intended to be an informal discussion, suddenly turned out to be the first general assembly of the European Society of Uroradiology (later renamed European Society of Urogenital Radiology - ESUR). Since then, it has been a successful ride. The subsequent meeting was called the third European Symposium on Uroradiology and it took place in 1992. The numbering was simply continued in respect of the meetings in 1987 and 1990. The third meeting also took place in Copenhagen, but from here on ESUR went out in Europe (Florence 1994, Zurich 1996, Strassbourg 1998, London 2000, Rotterdam 2001, Genoa 2002, Uppsala 2003, Santiago de Compostela 2004, Ljubljana 2005, Cairo 2006, Florida 2007, Munich 2008, Athens 2009, Bruges 2010, Dubrovnik 2011, Edinburgh 2012 and Istanbul 2013). Now the successful society goes back to its birthplace to celebrate its 25th birthday.
ESUR is known all over the world for its guidelines making the life of radiologists easier. ESUR has three subcommittees and five working-groups. They will present their work at the meeting as well as the prospects in their field. It will be great to hear about their work and thoughts about the near future within their field. I am thankful to the chairmen of the committees and workgroups for organizing the plenary sessions devoted to their groups. The extended meeting allows us to include 14 workshops dealing with topics not covered by the committees and working-groups. At this meeting, you will have the opportunity to hear about urogenital radiology aspects. It will be unique. We have reserved space and time for scientific presentations and electronic posters. Do not forget to submit an abstract. We are looking forward to hearing about the latest developments. We will do everything we can to make sure you have a great meeting.
Copenhagen is great city to visit. The meeting takes place in the city centre and you can easily walk to many attractions or use the well-developed public transportation system. Find more information at visitcopenhagen.com. Saturday evening we will have our birthday party. The band Chicago Blues Cruise will play. Do not miss that event.
The team here in Copenhagen is looking forward to seeing you for another great ESUR meeting. Do not miss the meeting. The progress regarding the meeting will be announced on this website, therefore, please visit it regularly for the latest news and updates.
