The next president of the European Association of Hospital Pharmacists (EAHP) will be Joan Peppard, who will assume the role when Dr. Roberto Frontini’s association presidency ends in June 2015. Ms. Peppard was elected to the office in June during the EAHP’s General Assembly in Sofia, and is now serving as the organisation’s President-Elect. Her term as president begins in 2015 and runs for three years.
Ms. Peppard acknowledged the continuing work of the EAHP and its leadership in building momentum for improving hospital pharmacy practices in European countries. She identified the main challenge for EAHP’s Board as translating the European Statements of Hospital Pharmacy’s vision of the future into a reality throughout Europe. The statements were recently finalised after input from pharmacists, patients and industry professionals.
EAHP Experience
Prior to her election, Ms. Peppard had served the EAHP in a variety of roles. For several years she was a lead delegate for Ireland within the General Assembly. She has been involved in education and research at a national level, and twice served as the President of the Hospital Pharmacists Association of Ireland. She is currently the Director of Professional Development on the EAHP’s Board, in addition to being a chief pharmacist in a hospital in the Midlands of Ireland.
Said Dr. Frontini, the EAHP’s current president: “Knowing very well Joan’s professional background, and her proven ability to make change happen on the ground, even in the most difficult practice environments, I am completely assured EAHP will continue to go from strength to strength in the achievement of its mission under her leadership.”
