The healthcare sector is preparing for one of its most significant autumn events. From November 17 to 20, 2025, Düsseldorf will once again host MEDICA, where the medical technology industry will showcase itself as one of the most innovative global sectors. In parallel, the 48th German Hospital Conference (Deutscher Krankenhaustag) will take place, under the optimistic motto: “Restarting Hospital Policy – Courage for Change”, despite the ongoing financial difficulties faced by many hospitals.
As in previous years, the congress will be embedded within the trade fair setting, this time situated in Hall 10.
The opening of both MEDICA and the Hospital Conference is expected to feature Federal Health Minister Nina Warken and North Rhine-Westphalia Health Minister Karl-Josef Laumann. Both ministers will hold discussions with hospital decision-makers regarding the urgent challenges and reforms on the agenda. Dirk Köcher, President of the Association of Hospital Directors in Germany (VKD), will represent the association’s views during these debates.
VKD Managing Director Dr Jens-Uwe Schreck emphasised the importance of hosting the conference within the exhibition halls:
Positioning the German Hospital Conference within the trade fair halls proved highly effective last year, and it remains the best choice once again. It facilitates more in-depth and direct exchanges between visitors, congress participants, and exhibitors, showcasing their innovations.
Dr Schreck highlighted this year’s key topics, including hospital resilience in disaster management scenarios with mass casualties, reducing bureaucracy, and the need to streamline Germany’s healthcare system by cutting excessive regulations. These themes will shape the VKD’s dedicated session on the second day of the conference.
