Dr Thanga Prabhu is the new Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) at Apollo Hospital. He is a medical doctor & health informatics expert with three decades of experience in India, Abu Dhabi and the United Kingdom. Having earned an MBBS from Madras University (1989) and post-graduation in Health Informatics from Swansea University, UK (2005), he deftly plays in both fields.


He was VP – Clinical Informatics @ Coheremed.com, an Acute Care Automation & Analytics company with offices in USA and India. He was Clinical Director for GE Healthcare IT – South Asia for over a decade till 2015, with stints in R&D, engineering and implementation roles. He worked with the Ministry of Health in Abu Dhabi as a Medical Officer in Internal and Emergency Medicine while also teaching medical students at UAE University for nine years, from 1994 to 2003. He continues to practice old age medicine and palliative medicine pro bono. 


He is a member of AMIA – American Medical Informatics Association, ACEP -American College of Emergency Physicians, AAFP – American Academy of Family Physicians and IAMI – Indian Association for Medical Informatics. In his role as International Ambassador for Swansea University he ably bridges Wales, Swansea and Swansea University with India.
