The Highlight of the Congress: Heart Failure

The prevalence of heart failure has increased exponentially. It now represents a major burden for patients and healthcare services and is one of the most important challenges in clinical cardiology. The ESC Congress 2007 provided a comprehensive update on the rapidly expanding diagnostic and therapeutic options in heart failure. This information was provided through state-of-the-art lectures, symposia, how-to and meet the expert sessions. These presentations ranged from basic science to bedside information, and from guidelines to the newest developments. Also, the latest developments in therapeutic options in the field of medical therapy, device therapy and advanced cardio-vascular surgery were discussed.

Overall, a total of 3,501 abstracts were accepted and werre presented in one of the 125 oral sessions or in the Poster Area either as regular posters or moderated posters. New this year were the State-of-the-Art and Featured Research Track, on Wednesday morning, which consisted of sessions including a keynote lecture by an expert in the field, in combination with four oral presentations of the highest ranked abstracts on a specific topic.
