Course Description
This course will explore basic and cutting-edge imaging techniques to improve patient care and hone individual skills in performance and interpretation of echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, cardiac computed tomography, and cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging. Days will reinforce how cardiovascular imaging may improve comprehension in ischemic heart disease, structural heart disease, cardiomyopathies, and heart failure. Experts will utilize novel techniques to reinforce key topics including taped interventional cases and a strong emphasis on case presentations.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:- develop skills in echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, cardiac computed tomography, and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging
- utilize cutting-edge techniques for advanced imaging for cardiovascular disease
- utilize diagnostic and clinical decision-making skills in the care of cardiovascular patients using multimodality cardiac imaging
- identify appropriate use of imaging indications, contraindications, and rationale for testing
Attendance at any Mayo Clinic course does not indicate or guarantee competence or proficiency in the skills, knowledge or performance of any care or procedure(s) which may be discussed or taught in this course.
Special Sessions
Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS)
This special session is for the physician, trainee, or advanced practice provider hoping to obtain a fundamental understanding of echocardiography and implement the principles at the bedside. Participants will have an opportunity to hone their skills in a small group setting utilizing simulated patient volunteers and simulation equipment. Space is limited for hands-on session.
Cardiac Anatomy Workshop
To master cardiovascular imaging, one must possess a very strong foundation in cardiac anatomy. Reinforcing anatomy is critically important to grasp anatomic relationships, structural and coronary artery disease, and cross-sectional imaging. Register for this 2-hour cardiac dissection to highlight key aspects of anatomy to complement course didactics. By completion, you will have a stronger foundation in coronary anatomy, cardiac valves, and other key structures.
Intended Audience
This course is designed for the cardiologists, radiologists, cardiac anesthesiologists, general internists, internal medicine subspecialists, sonographers, radiology technologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other primary healthcare providers interested in appropriate imaging for cardiovascular disease assessment and diagnosis. Physicians and advanced practice providers interested in performing hands-on echocardiography to enhance their diagnostic skills are encouraged to attend the point-of-care ultrasound course.
