MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center is excited to welcome Kuldeep Bharat Shah, MD FACC to the team at MercyOne Siouxland Heart and Vascular Center as our new full-time electrophysiologist.

Electrophysiology is the detection and treatment of a potentially life-threatening or abnormal heart rhythms also known as arrhythmias. This can cause people to experience symptoms such as fluttering in the chest, chest pain, fainting or dizziness. Electrophysiologists help to determine the cause of an abnormal heart rhythm, locate the origin, and decide the best treatment to help you get back to living your best life.

“I love to ask questions and learn. Electrophysiology is like solving a puzzle and it can sometimes get complicated. But it’s beautiful to see the different colors when you’re in a procedure and you do a 3D map, and you can identify the mechanism of an arrythmia. It’s a truly beautiful experience.”

Dr. Shah completed his internal medicine residency at Charleston Area Medical Center in West Virginia. He then completed a cardiology fellowship at West Virginia University and an EP fellowship at Beaumont Hospital in Michigan.

Dr. Shah says the best part about his job is making a difference, whether that’s in the clinic or in the fully equipped electrophysiology lab at MercyOne.

“I get to make a real change every day. Maybe it’s a patient who can only walk a few flights of stairs and now after their procedure they can walk four or more. Or it’s a patient that has suffered and survived a cardiac arrest and we help to prevent future ones. It’s so amazing to get to be a part of that.”

Dr. Shah is passionate about caring for heart failureAFIB and arrhythmias. He performs major procedures including Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) ablations, pacemakers, cardiac resynchronization therapy and leadless pacemakers.
